Effect of the water/binder ratio on the hydration process of Portland cement pastes with silica fume and metakaolin

abstract: The microstructure of cement pastes is important to understand the effect some parameters in hydration process. In this context, study had as objective evaluate different water/binder (w/b) ratios process cementitious produced with and without incorporation silica fume metakaolin. were obtained 0.3, 0.4 e 0.5, replacement, by weight, Portland for metakaolin, contents 10% 20%, respectively. It was performed X-ray diffraction test ages 1, 3, 7, 28 days, evolution materials. According results obtained, it observed that presented similar mineralogical phases, except containing metakaolin due formation new aluminate phases. With increase ratio, pozzolanic reactions occurred greater proportion, standing out reactivity.
